Classic Cameras

It is hard to define what a Classic Camera is. So please have a look in the cameras gallery to get an idea what I mean. I enjoy using them because they have a sort of "aura". They belonged to other people. They were built to last forever. They are objects rather than products you buy and dispose months later.

All of them are purely mechanism. No electronics, no integrated circuits. And nevertheless many of them accomplish very difficult tasks in 'decision making' and reach high standards in flexibility, precision and long lasting. There will never be cameras like that in mass production anymore. The prices would be unafordable because they have hundreds of small metal pieces manually assembled.

There are also many which are not complicated, that were never top of the line, but they are so beautiful and elegantly designed that also became classics. Capable of incredible results if you compromise with their lack of flexibility.

After all, the limitations in sharpness, compared to the computer designed lenses, and the very often troublesome handling, just helps to keep in mind that what you register in film would never be reality anyway. All we do is to create new things out of a present that is continuously sinking in the past and can't be rescued through reproduction. In our minds, blurred images can sometimes trigger really sharp perceptions.
